Camano Island Historic Log Home Restoration

Craftmanship That's A Cut Above

“Woodworks preserved the character of a 140-year-old log cabin. They were sympathetic to the original design and our desire to preserve that. Nolan was able to source older logs that fit the original structure, where other companies suggested newer, cheaper wood.

It should give log cabin owners of both new and historic homes confidence about the care they take in restoring your home.” – Steve Cambell

Our client’s log home is a historic homestead originally built in the 1880’s and has been in the family for 114 years. As the oldest structure on Camano Island, it’s a place of pride and gathering for the family.

“We feel an obligation to pass the cabin down to the next generation like it was for us.”

But the family cabin suffered from water penetration and rot in the base logs. If they didn’t fix the home soon then the whole structure was in jeopardy of collapsing.

“Before the inside was cold and drafty. Now it’s warm and cozy”

For the owner, restoring the log home while preserving its historic character was a top priority. After having 5-6 companies visit the cabin and provide a quote, Woodworks stood as the option that could source the logs that fit the historic building’s character, and showed sympathy to why that mattered to for the owner. Other companies offered cheaper solutions, but Woodworks stood out for the care and enthusiasm they showed for their clients.

“Our family got together for Thanksgiving and celebrated the work done on this cabin. We’re proud that it feels like it did originally, before all the problems that plagued it.”
